Welcome to Reception (EYFS)

Our adventure begins here in Reception where children are welcomed with an engaging and memorable curriculum from the moment they arrive. In the EYFS we recognise the importance of giving children the best possible start to their school life, embedding the school’s Christian vision and values. Following the children’s interests, learning through play, and encouraging the children to begin taking ownership of their learning are key elements of our day-to-day life here at Woods.

In Reception we know the development of language skills are vital to enable children to access the whole curriculum and so short, focused times each day are dedicated to the teaching of speaking, listening, phonics, reading, early writing and mathematics. Our curriculum is underpinned by the EYFS Statutory Framework along with the Characteristics of Effective Learning. Here at Woods, we love to give all the children multiple opportunities to thrive in different areas; to see that learning can occur everywhere and in different ways.
